RIP Gilbert Adair (1944-12-29 > 2011-12-08), journalist, film critic and author of Alice through the needle’s eye: a third adventure for Lewis Carroll’s Alice(1984), Peter Pan and the only children(1987), some Agatha Christie spoofs, and other intelligent satire … but also of insightful non fiction. Adair also wrote an introduction to Penguin’s Modern Classics edition (2000) of Zazie dans le métro(1959) by Raymond Queneau, whilst epically translating Georges Perec‘s (in)famous La disparition(1969) himself, as A void(1994 / 1995). PS: sadly, I couldn’t find any of Jenny Thorne‘s exquisite illustrations – in John Tenniel‘s style – for that third Alice online. Found these though: http://lavie-en-beads.seesaa.net/article/32720558.html
