Somewhere between 1985 and 1995 (eras are often better understood by counting decades that way), it seemed like every other progressive Dutch woman was a Sonja Barend lookalike: bluejeans, leather jacket, bright red lipstick, copper hair in a pony or loose Barend hairdo … The idea was to photograph & expose every ersatz Sonja … but I never got round to it. Meanwhile, since 1994, Dutch photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek have been working together more systematically on a similar but ultimately more ambitious project: Exactitudes” (ISBN 9064507656) Somehow, they missed out on the sonjatypes, though, and the currently omnipresent Vlaams mieke met rood truitje, felgroene rok en witte botjes ;-) [Tnx Em!]
