miss painted lady

… or who’s yoùr favourite painted princess or queen of the canvas? Here’s a shortlist of twenty + a poll for you to go ape over: http://theswedishbed.wordpress.com/2010/03/26/vote-for-the-hottest-girl-in-the-history-of-painting/ … Meanwhile, in Brussels, an expo of Symbolism in Belgium (1886-1914) has opened at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, featuring the likes of Fernand Khnopff (his “Arcasia. The Faerie Queen” from 1897 is featured above), Félicien Rops, Léon Spilliaert, Jean Delville and many more. I’ve always been in two minds about symbolist art, especially if it’s all too precious and verges on cheap mysticism (rather than délicatesse) but I’ve always been fascinated by the era (and the kind of Belgium / Europe) these artists lived in. (RIP em. prof. dr. Karel Wauters, 1943-2010.)
